Patient Eligibility

The package is applicable for elective, uncomplicated patients. Patients with the following conditions are considered to be complex or high risk cases and will not be qualified for the package:
•	Bleeding Disorders
•	Patients with underlying severe medical problems that required additional treatment and investigation including, but not limited to HIV and uncontrolled diabetes

About the Procedure

Anesthesia	Local anesthesia with sedation
Surgical Planning	Otoplasty typically is performed to create or restore the center fold to disproportionately large or prominent ears. The extent of the procedure depends on what changes are desired and what your surgeon deems appropriate. Otoplasty may be performed under a local anesthesia which numbs the area around the ears.
Surgical Procedure	There are several possible surgical approaches to otoplasty. Commonly employed technique, the surgeon makes incisions in the back of the ear and removes skin to expose ear cartilage. Then, the surgeon uses sutures to fold the cartilage in on itself to reshape the ear. In some instances, the same result can be achieved without sutures by weakening the cartilage before folding it. By creating a more pronounced fold in the central portion of the ear, the surgeon brings the ear closer to the head.
Duration of Operation	Depending on the extent of the surgery, the procedure usually lasts about one and a half hours.
Admission
Result	The outer part of ear will bend backward as to normal curve it should be.
Postoperative Care	There is some soreness and discomfort that is easily controlled by medication. If you have been admitted to a hospital, you will usually be released the day after operation. Within a few days, dressings are removed. To promote the healing, patients may ask to wear a light head dressing for several weeks. Since incisions are made in the back of the ears, faint scars should be concealed in the creases. The decision on when to return to work and normal activities depends on how fast you heal and how you feel.

	Bleeding or infection is extremely rare. Recurrence of prominence can happened in a small number of cases.

Prepare for Surgery

• Send your e-photo scan for 3 views: the frontal, the lateral, and in between (oblique view) using dark or black background while shooting.

• Inform us about any allergies, any serious medical conditions, and all medications you are taking (both prescription and non-prescription).

• Avoid some medication such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, anti-inflammatory medications, etc. for 2 weeks prior to operation (ask your local doctor).

• Prepare yourself in a good condition. Check your blood pressure and cardiac status, e.g. EKG, especially those who are over 40 years old.

• Refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol 2 weeks before and 4 weeks after surgery.
